These are the most commonly asked FAQs regarding product listing on Amazon. They are divided into 3 categories as shown below.

Product Creation FAQs
What are the requirements for creating a product catalogue?
  • Gather all your product data
  • Start with gathering product information such as Product name, Variation details, Size , Color, Material , Dimensions, HSN, Barcode and Price
  • All product images must be professional photoshoots and as per Amazon Image Guidelines
  • Brand should be registered on Amazon
  • Keep the inventory/stock information for the products
  • If the brand is not registered then take a GTIN exemption
What are the Image guidelines for Amazon?
  • Images must meet the following requirements:
  • Products must fill at least 85% of the image. Images must show only the product that is for sale, with few or no props and with no logos, watermarks, or inset images. Images may only contain text that is a part of the product.
  • Main images must have a pure white background, must be a photo (not a drawing), and must not contain excluded accessories.
  • Images must be at least 1000 pixels on the longest side and at least 500 pixels on the shortest side to be zoomable.
  • Images must not exceed 10000 pixels on the longest side.
  • JPEG is the preferred image format, but you can use TIFF and GIF files.
What are the minimum and maximum number of images allowed by Amazon?
  • Minimum 0 and Maximum 9 images are allowed. You can rearrange the order after uploading.
  • What image dimension is supported by Amazon?
  • Images must be at least 1000 pixels on the longest side and at least 500 pixels on the shortest side to be zoomable. It's good if the image dimension is 1000 x 1000 pixels.
  • How to upload the image on Amazon?
  • We can upload the images through the Amazon template to put the url else we can upload the image directly through the zip file.
  • Does Amazon support zip file for image upload?
    • Yes, you can use upload images in bulk, follow these steps:
    • Image files must be named by ASIN + variant code + file extension (for example, B000123456.MAIN.jpg). See Name Your Image Files help page.
    • The only accepted file types are JPG (preferred), TIF and GIF.
    • Create a ZIP file with all images inside before uploading. The ZIP file name must not contain emojis or other special (non-ASCII) characters.
    • After upload, you can view the status of your images in the status report.
    How to do bulk listing on Amazon?
    • Step 1
    • In Seller Central, click the Inventory tab
    • Select Add a Product via Upload or Add a Product
    • Chose the brand respective category and click on Generate template
    • Step 2
    • Add all the product details in the excel file
    • Step 3
    • Go to the Upload your Inventory File tab in Add Products via Upload: Upload your Inventory File
    • Click on Browse files
    • Select the prepared excel sheet and upload
      • Step 4
      • Go to the Monitor Upload Status tab in Add Products via Upload
      • Check the uploaded file status
      • Step 5
      • Go to Inventory and select the Manage Inventory tab to view and update both product and listing information
    How to create product variants?
  • To create a product variant, Please create the parent sku in the first row and child sku in next row.
  • The parent (the product listed in the first row of this example) is not a saleable product; it is a description of a set of products
  • Note: don't enter a size, colour, count, type, parent sku, relationship type or quantity for the parent product, but do enter an image URL.
  • Do not enter data such as price, time-to-ship, weight, etc., for the parent product, since these are overridden by the child product data.
  • Make sure you put the price, weight, size etc., in the child products, since this will be different for each.
  • How many variation types are supported by Amazon?
  • Variation theme differ by category, so you'll need to download the respective category templates and choose a Variety theme from the dropdown list.
  • Can we create a duplicate product listing on Amazon?
  • Amazon does not support duplicate listing, If you have multiple identical units of the same product, use the quantity field. Do not create multiple listings for the same product .
  • How to register the brand on Amazon?

    Review Eligibility Requirements

  • Brands must have a pending or registered and active text- or image-based trademark.
    • Sign in to Amazon Brand Registry
    • Brand Registry applications must be submitted by the trademark owner.
  • Enroll your brand
  • Once you sign in, you will need to enrol your brand(s). To enrol a brand, you will need to provide the following information:
    • Your brand name that has an active registered trademark; the active registered trademark for your brand must appear on your products or packaging.
    • The trademark registration number provided by the Intellectual Property office. Please note that we do not accept application numbers.
    • A list of product categories (e.g. clothing, sporting goods, electronics) in which your brand should be listed.
    • After you submit this information, we will verify that you are the Rights Owner of the trademark and look for a contact that meets our requirements. This person will receive a verification code. You will need to send this code back to Amazon to complete the enrolment process.
    • Once we have verified the provided information, you will get access to the full suite of Amazon Brand Registry’s benefits and features that help you protect your brand.
    Is there a way to list a product that is already listed on Amazon by another seller?
  • Amazon allows product matching to eliminate duplicate listing and to prevent the product from appearing multiple times.

  • In order to match your item, you need to look for the similar item that is already listed on Amazon. You can either use the Product Name, UPC, EAN, ISBN and ASIN. Just search for the product and choose the identical item on the results.

  • Specify the condition of your item that you’re selling and click the Sell This Product button

  • The only fields that are required are the Price, Quantity and Condition. You can indicate the Seller SKU but it can’t be changed once you have submitted your offer. Once you have filled in the required fields, you can choose your fulfillment channel. If you will be selecting Amazon FBA as your fulfillment channel, then the quantity field will be removed.

    If you want to add additional details to your listing, turn on the Advanced View. This is where you can specify your product tax code if there is any and a sale price if you will be running a promotion on your item. You can also offer gifting options for your package. Check the box if you want to remember this setting the next time you’ll be listing a similar item.

    How to download the existing sku data in Amazon template
    • Option 1
    • In Seller Central, click the Inventory tab.
    • Select Add a Product via Upload or Add a Product
    • Go to the 3rd tab : Monitor Upload Status
    • Find your old listing file and download the sheet
    • Option 2
    • If you have ASIN number
    • In Seller Central, click the Inventory tab.
    • Click on Add a new variant
    • Chose Add to or update an existing variation family
    • Put the ASIN code and click on Search button
    How to update the product name on Amazon PDP?
    You can update the product name in Amazon templates for existing skus and chose the PartialUpdate from update_delete attributes and upload the same file in Upload your Inventory File
    How to add new variants for existing products?
  • We have to download the existing SKUs template and add new variants with respect style/parent SKUs
  • Download the appropriate template for your category using the Product Classifier or Templates for Specific Categories. Refer to the Valid Values tab in the template to see what variation themes are available. If no variation theme is listed, you cannot create a product with variations in that category.
  • In the inventory template, create parent and child SKUs.
  • On the parent item:
    • Enter values for the required fields, including SKU.This can be any alphanumeric string of 40 characters or less, but must be unique (i.e., must not duplicate any of your other SKUs). Sellers often append "-parent" to their base SKU to remind them that this is a parent SKU.
    • Leave Parent SKU field blank.
    • Enter a value of "parent" in Parentage and enter a valid value in Variation Theme.
    • Leave Relationship Type blank.
    • Leave all the other non-required fields blank.
  • For each child item:
    • Enter values for the required fields
    • Fill in the Parent SKU field using the value from the parent's SKU (this value will be the same for all child items).
    • Please enter a value of "child" in Parentage and enter "variation" in Relationship Type.
    • In the Variation Theme field, enter the same value that you entered for Variation Theme on the parent (this value will be the same for all child items).
    How to delete the variants for existing products?
    • Option 1
    • You can download the template file with existing data and select the Delete option from the dropdown list of update_delete attribute and save the sheet and re-upload on seller panel via Upload your Inventory File
    • Option 2
    • Go to Inventory and select Manage Inventory
    • Click the status for delete skus
    • Click on the Action button
    • Select the Delete products and Listings to delete the products
    • Product will be deleted in 15 minutes

    How to add/update image for existing products?
  • You can put the image url in the in Amazon templates for existing skus and chose the PartialUpdate options from the dropdown list of update_delete attribute and save the sheet and upload on seller panel via Upload your Inventory File.
  • Common Errors while Listing
    How to create values such as article number, SKU code, etc.
  • What is the SKU code : The full form of SKU code is Stock Keeping Unit. It is an unique identifier for a product to record the stock quantity for the item (among other attributes).
  • Article number/SKU code generate based on EAN/Barcode either it can be create as series number which are easy identifier base on self or model number.
  • Include meanings of key attributes which are more prone to error
  • Manufacturer Part Number ( part_number)
    • If you are getting the error for manufacturer part number you can just put the SKU code in this filed in against the variants skus
  • SKU variation Grouping errors
    • In this case the sku variant will be listed without size grouping, So you can download the listing file and update the correction with correct parent SKUs in parentage column and upload again the size, If file getting success then mapping is autocorrected
  • Parentage ( parent_child ) : You have to put the correct value against the parent and child
  • Parent SKU ( parent_sku ) : In this filed always put the style SKUs against the variants skus
  • Relationship Type ( relationship_type ) : In this filed put the Variation against the SKUs code
  • Download your submission in the updated template version
    • If you are getting this massage that mean you need to download the upgrade file or you can use the template to click on this comment - Download your submission in the updated template version
    What is the difference between an error and a warning?
  • 'Error' in the feed processing report blocks your listings to be created on Amazon.in, whereas 'warning' is a recommended action you have to take, however, it will still allow your listings to be created.
  • What is 'Complete Drafts' option?
  • Complete Drafts is an alternative solution to fix your error within Seller Central. If you click Complete Drafts, you can view the Incomplete listings page, where you can fix your failed listings at any time after the upload.
